2 pounds of dried peas soaking

in cold water overnight

Add to it Sodium bicarbonate,

It softens the peas ’til they’re right.

 

Give them a good old rinsing

Cover with water then bring to the boil,

Cook them until they are softened,

Such abundance, so little toil.

 

The butchers has a treat you can add,

that’s tasty and won’t break the bank.

And if you keep a straight face.

Ask them for a Ham Shank.

 

Cook with the peas ’til it’s tender.

And falling right off the bone.

Dish up and fill up your bellies,

Its value is second to none.
