The assistant stood close by biting her lip when the doctor pushed passed her in his dark green scrubs.
‘Out of the way!’
He raced to the man’s side. ‘Breathe Mr Diamond, breathe.’
The man on the bed looked in trepidation but the doctor gave him a thumbs up and mimed breathing in and out. Before long the contractions were closer; the doctor barked commands and enthusiastic encouragements. Through gritted teeth the man grunted and roared on the bed.
And then the ordeal was over.
‘Congratulations Mr Diamond; you’re the first man to have ever given birth to a cat!’
