Call Me Birch

My name is Betula Pendula,
You may call me Birch for ease,
My name starts with the letter B,
I’m a pioneer amongst the trees.

Another name is Warty Birch,
This one? Not so keen.
A different one is Silver,
It describes my glowing sheen.

My bark is white, my bite is worse,
I’ll whip you good and clean.
My twigs will make a wicked broom,
And my flesh makes Germolene.

Yes it’s true, I lie to you not.
Sniff my essence when it’s pure.
You’ll notice the smell straight away,
It’s a trusty and ancient cure.
